DevLearnDesign – Week1 (Font)

I frequently deal with fonts when developing websites. This involves setting up local font styles, adjusting font weights, and managing line heights. However, I primarily rely on the guidelines provided by Figma wireframes. These lessons have taught me the importance of selecting the appropriate font for different contexts, which can be a challenging and time-consuming process.

Thankfully, studying typography has made my life easier. I now understand that there are four main categories of typography: display fonts, serif fonts, sans serif fonts, and handwriting fonts. Each category evokes a different feeling and serves a specific purpose. For instance, serif fonts are perfect for creating a grand and formal expression, while sans serif fonts are more suitable for informal text and easy reading.

By following these rules, I have significantly reduced the time spent searching for suitable fonts on Google Fonts. Additionally, I pay close attention to font descriptions. For example, when choosing a font for content related to Hawaii, I selected “Courgette” from the display fonts category because its brushy texture aligns with the Hawaiian environment. It brings me great joy and success when the font description perfectly matches the topic or content.

In addition to font styles, I have also learned about font settings. For instance, when aiming for a panoramic effect, I use light font weights with large letter spacing. On the other hand, if I want to achieve a bold appearance, I ensure tighter letter spacing and line heights.

Learning about design has opened my eyes to the presence of design elements all around us. It has encouraged me to observe and appreciate the world in a whole new way. The journey of continuous learning continues!
